"What if my baby is in the nicu for some time?"

Questions for a Delaware Newborn Photographer

NICU Graduates & Newborn Photography: It’s Never Too Late!

So, your little warrior spent some time in the NICU, and now you’re finally settling in at home. Between round-the-clock feedings, adjusting to life with your baby out of the hospital, and, let’s be honest, just trying to shower occasionally, you might be wondering:

“Did I miss the window for newborn photos?”

Short answer - Nope! Not even a little bit.

As a Delaware newborn photographer, I hear this worry all the time, especially from parents whose babies had a longer stay in the hospital. The truth is, while the fresh-out-of-the-oven newborn look is typically captured in the first two weeks, we can absolutely photograph your baby at any time. We just tweak the approach a little.

Meet the Mini(Malistic) Session!

If your baby is past the curly, squishy, swaddle-like-a-burrito phase but not quite ready for tummy time, I’ve got the perfect solution: Mini(Malistic) Sessions! These sessions are designed for older newborns who may not be up for the usual newborn poses but still deserve gorgeous photos.

Here’s what makes them amazing:

  • No swaddles required. If your little one is already a mini escape artist, we roll with it! Think cozy outfits and natural, relaxed posing.
  • Baby-led posing. We let your baby call the shots—no forcing into positions they’re just not into.
  • Clean, timeless aesthetics. No overwhelming props, just beautiful lighting and your adorable baby being their wonderful self.

The Perks of Waiting (Even If You Didn’t Plan To!)

Many NICU parents worry that their baby’s time in the hospital means they’ve missed out on that “newborn” phase for photos. But guess what? Babies are still ridiculously cute at 4, 6, even 8 weeks old! By this point, they might have filled out a bit, started giving some eye contact, and even flashed the occasional smirk. Those little details? Absolute gold for a newborn photographer near Kennett Square like myself.
