When I was brainstorming businesses that I wanted to be (or HOPED would be!) one of my first Small Business Spotlights, Adrienne at Expecting Miracles instantly came to mind! Adrienne has put her heart and soul in to opening her own elective ultrasound office, Expecting Miracles, LLC, and it shows! As a newborn photographer in Delaware, I often have clients that have previously visited Adrienne’s office during pregnancy, and each and every one of them has RAVED about how kind, caring, and passionate Adrienne is.
I first heard about Expecting Miracles last year through some Facebook posts, and decided I needed to check her out. I like to partner with reputable businesses in the area, and I hoped Adrienne would someone I could team up with. Upon first meeting, I toured her office, learned about her experience, and found out why she had decided to open her own elective ultrasound office. She’s dedicated to giving expectant mom’s an experience to remember, and welcomes everyone with patience, gratitude, and smiles.
Read on, in Adrienne’s own words, about why Expecting Miracles is the ultimate place to go for that elective ultrasound when you are expecting your precious little one! Scroll to the bottom for a photo tour of her office space, and see some of the cute items she has in store for you!
Why did you decide to open an elective ultra sound office?
After many years of working for a high risk OB practice, I knew I wanted to help those moms who were looking to have an ultrasound without a doctors prescription. There were so many moms that did not have the opportunity to have additional ultrasound during their pregnancy because there was no medical indication, meaning they were low risk. By opening the first ELECTIVE ultrasound facility in the state I would be able to accommodate those moms who want to bring guest to an non-medical ultrasound to meet their baby before birth. I also know how important it is for some moms who want to find out the gender of their baby as soon as possible and I can give them the opportunity to do so beginning at 14 weeks. I also know that an ultrasound in the first trimester can dissipate anxiety after a miscarriage which is sometimes not ordered by a physician but can be obtained here with out a prescription to just verify a fetal heartbeat. It just so happens that the 3/4D imaging was the best part of my job as a diagnostic sonographer at the high risk OB practice. I knew my skills would bring joy to numerous moms and their families which is why I decided to open my own ELECTIVE ultrasound office.
What services do you provide for your clients?
–2D elective ultrasound beginning at 10 weeks for viability for those anxious or curious moms-typically these moms have has a pregnancy loss previously which makes they very uneasy until they have had an ultrasound to see their baby with a heartbeat. Not every OB doctor will order an ultrasound as part of their routine prenatal care early on if the patient is sure about her dates, so sometimes these anxious moms don’t want to wait until their medically indicated ultrasound (usually a first trimester screening-Down Syndrome Screening or even the 18-20 week anatomy scan-gender is typically determined)
–2D elective ultrasound for early gender determination beginning at 14 weeks which is much sooner than the medically indicated anatomy scan. Most anatomy scans are not scheduled until 20 week which is 1/2 way through the pregnancy. There are moms who want to find out as soon as possible so they can start planning for a boy or a girl.
–3/D elective ultrasound imaging offering several different packages: (Ultimate Expecting, Bonding, Peek a Boo Ultrasound Package)
with the 3/4D ultrasound we provide moms with access to the womb to see their baby in real time allowing you see the baby’s detailed facial features and other parts of the body such as fingers, toes. You are also able see the baby’s actions such as yawns, kicks, wincing or a hiccup. These images provide expecting moms and her support people so much more than just pictures, these images are creating memories and strengthening bonds between other family members such as partners, siblings and grandparents and the precious unborn child with we can now relate because of an image created by the 3/4D ultrasound technology. All the changes that we can see take place on the outside can now be seen in a picture fostering and nurturing the existing bonds between this beautiful unborn child and other family members.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part is when I get to see raw emotions from either parents or grandparents. What I mean by raw emotions is a tear of joy or screams of excitement, or just a soft moment between the couple as they watch their baby on the screen while they are holding hands and discussing their future with this new life that will bring so much joy.
What is a typical experience like at your office?
A typical experience begins by a warm welcoming greeting at the front desk, followed by a short registration and waiver that must be filled out and signed to protect my clients and my business. There are toys, blocks and books to entertain the younger guests before your session. We want to make your visit as comfortable as possible offering water in our waiting room. We also do not overbook our appointments so there will be no wait for your appointment which allows us to focus on you. Your scan will be preformed in a spacious room with comfortable seating for eight guests. We can accommodate as many guest as you like in the ultrasound viewing room where the ultrasound will be displayed on a 60″ screen TV. A scan can be from 5 minutes to 25 minutes where you will be able to view the precious new life kicking, flipping, dancing or sleeping.
What do your clients enjoy most abut coming to your office?
I think clients like that they can share this unique experience with their family unlike a medically indicated ultrasound where bringing extended family members to a medical ultrasound is prohibited. Also clients like that the focus is on imaging the baby in 3/4D so they can see the baby’s facial features. They enjoy the atmosphere that I’ve created to give them an enjoyable experience. They like the convenient evening hours during the week and the Saturday hours on the weekend.
