Last night as I was getting ready for bed, I decided that today we would wake up, go shopping for new spring outfits, and have a quick photo session at Goodstay Gardens, my new favorite family photo location in Wilmington, DE. Liam turned two this past Thursday, so of course we needed new photos!
I planned this all last minute so there are a million photographer rules that I broke, I’m ashamed to admit! Everything I preach to my own families (clients), I totally went against, as I had decided literally 12 hours before that I was going to do some photos of the kids.
We went to Target this morning (8am opening time, sweet!) and picked out outfits. Mistake #1. I TOOK THEM WITH ME. As they roared and barked like lions and dogs through the store, I couldn’t convince Abby that a cute, neutral shirt and shorts was perfect. Instead, she had to have the bright blue dress.
Mistake #2, we went out in BRIGHT DAYLIGHT. I never schedule during the day. Outdoor shoots are always an hour before sunset. So we were limited to a small portion of the gardens area. Anyone that has a two year old knows how difficult cooperation is in general, but then to ask him to stand in a specific spot because that’s where the shade was…
Mistake #3: hair fails. The wind was a bit strong this morning, and Liam’s poor hair kept blowing everywhere! A dab of pomade would have quickly solved that problem. But again… last minute planning.
I almost forgot about our previous days’ activities: temporary tattoos! Of course that was way before I had planned on doing a photo session with them, so their arms were covered in tattoos. Mistake #4.
However, in the 10 minutes that I did have a bit of cooperation from them, I managed to sneak in some pretty adorable images. Below are my own babies, age 4 and 2.
